Scales
Scale knowledge and practice is very important for many different purposes. Scale practice helps you to move more freely on guitar, understand the layout of notes on a guitar, find out what notes work in what context and ultimately be able to create your own melodies and solo's by combining sequences of notes from the scales. Scale practice exercises are very useful for training your hands to gravitate to patterns used in majority of songs. You can use them to get used to the sometimes quick placement of fingers onto the fretboard required for songs.

When following these scale diagrams, pay very close attention to the numbers in the middle of each dot. When you see 1, use your fretting hand pointer finger, when you see 2, use your middle finger, when you see 3, use your ring finger and when you see 4, use your pinky, This will help train your hands to move in the most efficient way possible and eliminate unnecessary movements that can slow down your playing or make it difficult to reach certain notes.
